Panel on the Fantasy Genre:  The fantasy genre has boomed in the last decade, but despite its popularity is still frequently described as “evasive, escapist and counterproductive” (Pamela S Gates). Contemporary fans, on the other hand, argue that fantasy books saved their mental health during COVID and are an essential mechanism in surviving our beleaguered times.
