A voracious reader since forever, I am a fan of almost every genre. I never intended to be a writer, but whilst living overseas, I was ordered to write my parents a letter every week, and it had to be entertaining (or the allowance would dry up.) On the last day of graduate school, with no papers to grade or thesis left to write, and nothing interesting around to read, I started writing a novel (which began, inevitably, with a letter).
That novel was ‘The Rook’, which I wrote as I moved back home to Canberra, got a job in a coffee shop, and then moved into the public service. At one point, for the worst twenty-four hours of my life, my computer crashed and ate the first 150 pages of manuscript (I later found it in some deep folder of the computer.)
Since then, the book was published in various languages, and was adapted into a television show (in which I have a cameo!). Sequels have followed, and now I am a full-time novelist, writing each day in the Reading Room of the National Library. I incorporate a great deal of research into my work, primarily on UK and European history with a current focus on World War II.
I am a big fan of festivals and conventions. I really enjoying meeting readers and authors, and talking about the books that we love. I especially enjoy being on panels, and sharing my experiences in writing and publishing.
My published books are:
- The Rook
- Stiletto
- Blitz
With more on the way!
