2022 Scone Literary Lite Festival

Cancelled in March

The Scone Literary Festival has had to make the difficult decision to postpone the full three-day festival to November 2022. But we are announcing a Lite Festival on the original weekend of 12-13 March!

The writing competitions – Farmers Short Story Writing competition and Write Up for high schoolers in the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook LGAs – proceed as planned.

More details on the modified, community event for the weekend of 12-13 March are now available.

The Farmer’s Short Story Competition is happening again in 2022! This year we’ve opened it up to all primary producers in the Upper Hunter State Electorate AND doubled the first prize!

Lite Festival Now Cancelled

2022 Scone Literary Festival

Postponed until November 2022

The Scone Literary Festival has had to make the difficult decision to postpone the full three-day festival to November 2022. We are still planning a revised, reduced program for March 2022.

The writing competitions – Farmers Short Story Writing competition and Write Up for high schoolers in the Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook LGAs – proceed as planned.

Our 2022 theme is Storylines, a narrative that underpins every story, however small, however personal, however big, however, political, however global.  A storyline, a narrative is behind every literary work, and we’re exploring just this translates at the festival. Other topics we’re tackling include the environment – crimes against nature; trauma and tragedy; power and consent , the meaning of beauty in the 21C, plus the impact of the pandemic and much more.

The three-day event also includes a day focused on children with events for kids of all ages and stages. Pre-schoolers are entertained by a children’s author and illustrator, primary school kids from around the Upper Hunter LGA participate in a creative writing workshop, and high schoolers embark on contemporary and fun short film making workshop with emerging writer, director and producer, former local, Hattie Archibald.

“I hope you are enjoying a well-deserved rest. It was a warm and wonderful festival. The panels were totally engaging with controversial, intellectual and creative discussions. I really enjoyed speaking on the youth literature panel. The organisation was smooth and seamless. I loved special moments like damper with the bush poets. Speaking at the Scone library was a great joy engaging our future readers and attendees at the Scone Literary Festival. Congratulations.``
